Social Media and connecting directly to your customer base has never been more important. Being able to market straight towards your base and not just hoping your some of your base sees your efforts is huge. But we all know how intimidating it can be to navigate this world, especially doing it on your own. We’ve compiled a list of 7 tips that we KNOW can take your social media efforts to the next level.
1.) Understand the Available Platforms
There are tons of social media sites, apps, and platforms, so it’s imperative to understand the differences and know which will suit your business the best. Thoughts on this tend to stray in two difference directions. Some will tell you to use all platforms available to you, while others will tell you to take a more targeted approach. Our advice is to utilize all the big names and then use a targeted approach towards the more niche platforms. This means that Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are all a must. This also means that platforms like Snapchat, Pinterest, and Youtube (although large and mainstream) are better off used only if it fits your business.
2.) Plan Ahead and be Consistent
Now that you’ve figured out which platforms you want to utilize, you’ll want to come up with a quasi-schedule for your posting. This doesn’t have to mean posting at the exact same time, on the same days of the week, month in and month out. What this means is you’ll want to be consistent with how much you’re posting. You don’t want to go long stretches without posting anything, and also don’t be afraid to post a lot of content if it’s quality. Planning your posts ahead of time can not only save you a lot of time, but it’ll give you the time to put in the effort needed to get good engagement numbers.
3.) Set Goals
Setting goals is a great way to make sure you’re staying active and doing the most you can. When it comes to social media you never want to get complacent and stop putting in your full effort, that’s when you start to see your numbers decline. Keep track of all your stats throughout your active platforms and set goals for each. This will allow you to target which areas you need to focus more or less on to get the most out of your social media activity. If you notice that a certain platform isn’t gaining as many followers as the others, you know you’ll need to focus more energy on creating engaging content for said platform. Setting goals will also help with morale as you can see exactly how many more engagements your getting at each set point and give you the boost to keep up your efforts.
4.) Mix Up your Posting
Not all of your posting needs to be completely business related. Posting for holidays and current/local events is a good way to break up your content and give it a lighter feel. You can also post things like tips and tricks, along with any new happenings at your office. Posting about your staff and office space is a great way to connect deeper with your following and improve your brand in their eyes. Strictly posting photos from your work can get a bit boring, so you want to make sure you’re mixing it up with lighter posts without making it seem too much like irrelevant ‘fluff’.
5.) Ask Questions and Engage
Have a good following but lack actual engagements? ASK QUESTIONS, figure out ways to engage directly with your following to encourage them to engage back. Have a holiday post?, ask what your followers are doing for that day or what their best memory from that holiday is. Ask them what content they most like to see on your page. You can even utilize polls and quizzes to get people engaged. For example a plumbing service can post a quick quiz on common household plumbing problems and what their followers would do in certain situations, this type of post may show your followers that they don’t know as much about plumbing as they think they do and they’ll be more likely to contact you if a problem arises.
6.) Provide Exclusives
We just talked about ways to keep your followers engaged, well you also want to make sure you keep your followers following you! One easy way to do that, along with gaining more followers, is to use your social media pages to provide exclusive deals directly to your customers. Have a holiday sale with a special code that can only be found on certain pages. Make these offers exclusive to just one of your social media platform pages, this way it encourages your followers to be active on all your platforms and not just one or two. Providing value exclusives is also a great way to get your foot in the door with customers who were on the fence with using your company in the first place. They see the value, use your service or product, fall in love with it and keep coming back for more. Rewarding your followers is the best way to keep them as engaging followers!
EXPERIMENT with your posts! It’s so simple yet so important to a successful social media page. You need to be able to find out what types of posts your followers like and want the most. We talked before about asking directly via polls, but another way is to just go ahead and post different things and see which come back with the most engagements. Don’t be afraid to try new things, some will hit and some won’t, but either way you’ll learn a lot of valuable information on your followers likes and dislikes. Experimenting with different types of posts also allows you to bring in new followers who might not have seen your page before.
